With many patients the side effects experienced after the surgery are minor. A common side effect is diarrhea. If, a few days after the surgery the patient eats:

-a large meal
-one containing lots of fat
-a rich meal (e.g., one with cream sauces, heavy desserts, etc.,)

they may experience diarrhea. The diarrhea may be such that it’s difficult to control. If this occurs the patient should contact his/her surgeon who can prescribe medicine to reduce the symptoms. Some surgeons automatically prescribe this medicine after the surgery just in case the patient has problems. The diarrhea usually goes away after a few days.
